Cerakote vs Anodizing

Cerakote offers over 200 unique and popular colors, and can be applied to all ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, composites and many other substrates making it a universal coating as an anodizing alternative.

All Cerakote colors are held to a color consistency standard of a Delta E of 1 or less. Typically, the human eye can only see color variance differences greater than a Delta E of 2 or more, making Cerakote the perfect anodizing substitution for high volume finishes.

Cerakote does NOT detrimentally affect the fatigue properties of aluminum alloys.

We took two identical bolt-action rifles and left them in the woods of the Pacific Northwest with a time lapse camera, to document the outcome. The rifle on the right of the screen has been factory finished with Cerakote ceramic coating protection, while the rifle on the left has a traditional factory blued finish. The test begins now:

  • Just 12 days into the test, the traditionally blued rifle begins to show signs of corrosion, while the Cerakote rifle shows no signs of corrosion.
  • Even after over 15 months of being exposed to the elements, the rifle that’s been finished with Cerakote ceramic coatings has shown no signs of corrosion, while the traditional factory blued barrel has shown significant sign of corrosion.
