Description
No other single event has had a greater influence on uniting Canada than the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railroad. And to honor the 100th anniversary of the CPR, Winchester issued the Canadian Pacific Centennial Rifle in 1981.
The CPR features an extended forearm and straight grip stock with blued buttplate. The wood is American walnut with the letters “CPR“ branded in the stock. The round barrel with a 3/4 magazine is engraved with “Canadian Pacific Centennial” in pewter letters. The hammer, trigger and loading gate are blued, while the lever, forend cap and magazine plug are pewter plated. The sights are rifle front and buckhorn rear.
The burnished silver receiver is engraved on the left side with a steam engine train crossing a trestle bridge with pine trees in the foreground and mountains in the background. The saddle ring is blued. The right side depicts a shield with “Canadian Pacific Railway” on it, surrounded by scroll. Both engravings are framed with a border of railroad track. The upper tang carries the inscription “Model 1894 Winchester.”
The serial number, with the prefix “CPC,“ is located on the front underside of the receiver. 2,700 were reproduced at New Haven.
