Description
Klondike Gold Rush
In 1975, the Dawson City Historical Society authorized the production of the Klondike Gold Rush Commemorative Rifle from Winchester. Honoring the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898, the gun features an extended forearm and straight grip stock of satin-finished American walnut. The buttstock is square combed with a wrap-around buttplate in gold finish.
The round barrel is adorned with the inscription "Klondlike Commemorative" in gold finish and gold plated barrel bands. The sights are ramp and hood front with semi-buckhorn rear.
The gold plated receiver is engraved on the left side with a prospector panning for gold with the inscription "The Great Gold Strike 1896" . The saddle ring is blued. The right side shows a pick-ax and a pan of gold nuggets with the inscription "Bonanza · Eldorado · Hunter Creek". The upper tang is inscribed with "Model 1894 Winchester".
A gold plated medallion depicts three prospectors with packs climbing a mountain with the legend "Klondike Gold Rush 1898 The Chilkroot Pass". The medallion is embedded in the right side of the buttstock.
The serial number, with the prefix "KRG", is located on the front underside of the receiver. 10,200 were produced at Cobourg.
A percentage of the royalities from the sale of these guns went to the Dawson City Museum for their building fund.
