Description

In 1979, Winchester introduced the Legendary Frontiersmen Model 94 Rifle in honor of the intrepid pioneers and adventurers who braved the dangers of America’s vast and unknown frontier so that others could follow. The original Model 94, chamber for the 38-55 and 32-40 black powder cartridges was introduced in November 1894.

The Frontiersmen features an extended forearm and straight grip stock with blued, curved buttplate. The wood is satin-finished semi-fancy walnut with deep cut checkering in the spade design. The round barrel carries the inscription “Legendary Frontiersmen” in silver script. The magazine plug, trigger, hammer, lever and loading gate are blued, while the fore-end cap is in antique silver finish. The sights are blade front and semi-buckhorn rear.

The antiqued receiver is silver plated and engraved on the left side with a bald eagle about to catch a rabbit in its talons. Elsewhere on the left side, are two frontiersmen on horseback taking their mule pack through the high country. There is no saddle ring. The right side depicts a standing grizzly bear, a frontiersman in buckskins greeting two Indians on horseback and a beaver. Both sides feature elaborate scroll work. The upper tang is inscribed with “Model 1894 Winchester”.

The nickel silver medallion depicts a buckskin clad frontiersman in hand-to-hand combat with an Indian.

The serial number, with the prefix “LF”, is located on the front underside of the receiver. 19,999 were produced at New Haven.

In addition, Winchester also made a special edition of Legendary Frontiersmen Commemorative Ammunition sold separately from the rifle. The 255-grain silver point cartridges are nickel plated and bear a distinctive head stamp. There are twenty center-fire cartridges in a box.
